Summary:

The story is about a young boy named Mafatu who is trying to become a man like all the other boys. However he is afraid of the ocean after he witnessed his mother die as a young child. He hears stories of the other great people who conqered the oceans and uncharted lands. One night he decides to face his fear of the ocean and sail off into the night not knowing where he was going. He fights storms until he runs a ground on an island with cannibals. This story talks about the courage of a young boy who survives by himself with a dog. He faces the toughest challenges as a boy and learns skills that will help him overcome his fear.​
